The 7th Annual Stop Drop and Reel Firefighter Charity Halibut Tournament
to
benefit the Braveheart Kids Program through UCSD Burn Center, was a exciting
event. The event took place on May 30th, 2009.
We had a record breaking first place winner.
San Diego Fire & Rescue was well represented on the boat Killerwhale, skippered by Ed Howerton,
bringing in both first and second place with a 41.7lb and a 28.7lb halibut.
Third place went to Escondido Fire Dept. fishing on Whackem, with a 28.5lb halibut.
There were a total of 94 anglers, 30 boats, with 16 Fire Departments represented.
Through our generous sponsers, we were able to raise alot of money for the Braveheart Program, with raffles and auctions.
Fire Department Network News was there to film the event for their webcast. Look for it at http://www.fdnntv.com/
A great time was had by all and last years winner, Carlsbad Fire Dept., graciously handed over the winning flag and perpetual plaque, to San Diego Fire & Rescue to display at their station for the year.
